January: Weight Loss Awareness Month

Not surprisingly, January is known in the medical community for weight loss awareness. Of course, January is the month that so many of us make resolutions to change our lives over the course of the next year, and for many of us that means we want to lose weight.

There’s a lot that comes into play when considering the conditions of being overweight or obese. We all know that it sounds right to eat less and exercise more, yet weight loss continues to be a chronic ambition for so many Americans. In reality, differences in temperament, body chemistry, emotional wellness, and so much more, can actually impede our weight loss efforts.

Did you know that food allergies can even contribute to excess weight?

When we consume foods that trigger an immune response from our body, it commonly results in bloating, gas, and/or inflammation. And while that may not sound like a recipe for weight gain, both inflammation and digestive woes can get in the way of our weight-loss goals.

Researchers are currently exploring the links between chronic inflammation and obesity, and also lifestyle illnesses such as diabetes. Since effective and lasting weight loss depends upon a body that is working efficiently to metabolize nutrients and eliminate weight, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that food allergies do indeed have a relationship with weight gain.

The good news is that there are treatments available to help you face food allergies and get your body back on track. Covenant Allergy & Asthma can help you pinpoint the foods that weigh you down. We can also help your body and gut heal and rest to allow for more efficient processes—like weight loss.
